Welcome to Open Door Chess ("Open Door Chess," "Company," "we," "our," or "us"). These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your access to and use of our website located at https://www.opendoorchess.com, our educational content, memberships, coaching services, digital products, live classes, and related services (collectively, the "Services").

By purchasing, accessing, or using any of our Services, you agree to be legally bound by these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use our Services.

1. Eligibility

You must be at least 18 years old to purchase and use our Services.

Individuals under 18 may participate only with the consent and supervision of a parent or legal guardian. The parent or guardian accepts responsibility for the minor's participation.

2. Educational Purpose

Open Door Chess provides educational instruction designed to improve chess knowledge and playing ability.

We do not guarantee:

  • Any specific chess rating

  • Tournament results

  • Online rating increases

  • Employment opportunities

  • Income or financial results

Individual progress depends upon many factors including effort, study habits, consistency, previous experience, and practice.

3. Account Responsibility

If you create an account, you agree to:

  • Provide accurate information

  • Keep your login credentials secure

  • Notify us of unauthorized account use

  • Accept responsibility for activity occurring under your account

We reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts involved in fraud, abuse, or violations of these Terms.

4. Payments

All prices are listed in U.S. Dollars.

Payments are securely processed by third-party payment processors, including Stripe.

By submitting payment you authorize the applicable processor to charge your selected payment method.

5. Subscription Memberships

If you purchase a subscription:

  • Your subscription automatically renews until canceled.

  • Your payment method will be charged at each renewal period.

  • You may cancel at any time before your next billing date.

  • Cancellation prevents future renewals but does not provide refunds for prior billing periods unless otherwise stated.

6. Refund Policy

Unless a specific product page states otherwise:

  • Digital products are non-refundable once access has been granted.

  • Coaching sessions already completed are non-refundable.

  • Membership fees are non-refundable for the current billing period.

  • Missed coaching sessions are not refundable, but will be available for rewatch in the Skool community for a limited time.

If Open Door Chess cancels a coaching session, class, or event, we may offer a rescheduled session, account credit, or refund at our discretion.

Any published satisfaction guarantee on a specific offer supersedes this section for that offer.

7. Coaching Sessions

Scheduled coaching appointments may be rescheduled with reasonable advance notice.

Repeated no-shows or late arrivals may result in forfeiture of the session.

Open Door Chess reserves the right to discontinue coaching relationships involving abusive, threatening, disruptive, inappropriate behavior, or actions that hinder others from the peaceful enjoyment of the program.

8. Community Standards

Members participating in online communities, live classes, group coaching, forums, or discussions agree to:

  • Treat others respectfully

  • Avoid harassment or discrimination

  • Avoid profanity directed toward others

  • Avoid disruptive behavior

  • Avoid sharing offensive or illegal material

  • Avoid spam or unauthorized advertising

Violation may result in removal without refund.

9. Intellectual Property

All content provided by Open Door Chess is protected by copyright and other intellectual property laws.

This includes:

  • Videos

  • Lesson materials

  • PDFs

  • Worksheets

  • Graphics

  • Logos

  • Articles

  • Course curriculum

  • Live coaching materials

  • Recordings

  • Website content

Purchasing a product grants you a limited, non-transferable, non-exclusive license for your personal use only.

You may not:

  • Copy

  • Sell

  • Redistribute

  • Republish

  • Upload elsewhere

  • Record coaching sessions for redistribution

  • Share login credentials

  • Create competing products using our materials

without our written permission.

10. User Content

If you submit games, questions, comments, testimonials, or other materials, you retain ownership of your content.

However, you grant Open Door Chess a non-exclusive, royalty-free license to use, display, reproduce, and distribute that content for educational, promotional, or business purposes unless you request otherwise in writing at hello@opendoorchess.com,

11. Testimonials

Testimonials reflect individual experiences.

They are not guarantees that other customers will achieve similar results.

12. Availability

We strive to maintain uninterrupted access to our Services.

However, we cannot guarantee continuous availability due to maintenance, technical issues, third-party outages, or events beyond our control.

We reserve the right to modify or discontinue any Service at any time.

13. Third-Party Services

Our Services may integrate with third-party providers, including payment processors, video conferencing platforms, learning management systems, and email service providers. These may include, Stripe, Calendly, Kit, Zoho, and others.

We are not responsible for the practices or policies of third-party services.

14. Disclaimer of Warranties

The Services are provided "as is" and "as available."

To the fullest extent permitted by the law, Open Door Chess disclaims all warranties, express or implied, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement.

15. Limitation of Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Open Door Chess and its owners, employees, contractors, and affiliates shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, consequential, special, punitive, or exemplary damages arising from your use of the Services.

Our total liability for any claim shall not exceed the amount you paid to Open Door Chess during the twelve (12) months immediately preceding the event giving rise to the claim.

Some jurisdictions do not allow certain limitations, so portions of this section may not apply to you.

16. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Open Door Chess and its owners, employees, contractors, affiliates, successors, and agents from claims, damages, liabilities, costs, and expenses (including reasonable attorneys' fees) arising from:

Before filing legal action, the parties agree to make a good-faith effort to resolve any dispute informally by contacting one another in writing. Open Door Chess is available at hello@opendoorchess.com.

If a dispute cannot be resolved informally, either party may pursue any remedies available under applicable law.

21. Force Majeure

Open Door Chess shall not be liable for delays or failures caused by events beyond our reasonable control, including natural disasters, acts of God, war, terrorism, labor disputes, internet outages, governmental actions, epidemics, pandemics, or failures of third-party providers.

22. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time.

Updated Terms become effective upon posting to our Website. Continued use of the Services after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.

23. Severability

If any provision of these Terms is determined to be unenforceable, the remaining provisions shall remain in full force and effect.

24. Entire Agreement

These Terms, together with our Privacy Policy and any additional policies or offer-specific terms referenced during purchase, constitute the entire agreement between you and Open Door Chess concerning the Services.
